Do you feel shame? Is your external self reflective of your internal self? Or are you smiling on the outside,

while crying, angry,  lonely on the inside?

Research says...

Mental health stigma often prevents teenagers from accessing psychotherapy treatment due to feelings of shame and embarrassment. It isn't uncommon to suffer in silence until your feelings and emotions become unbearable. You are not alone. Please consider psychotherapy if you have been struggling emotionally.

If you're feeling anxious, or unhappy. Let's find ways to feel better. Sometimes, mental health stigma can create barriers to accessing help.

Some individuals believe that mental health issues are a form of defect in character, an abnormality, and a source of embarrassment (Thornicroft, et al., 2016).

Stigma complicates successful mental health treatment because it creates a barrier. Common barriers among individuals that are seeking mental health  treatment include fear of stigmatization and the belief that mental illness exposes weakness (Martinez, et al., 2016).

Stigma worsens feelings of hopelessness, loneliness, and distress, causing a fear of judgment from others, and discourages individuals with mental health needs from seeking treatment (Crowley & Kirschner, 2015).
